International Domain Names
.COM .NET .ORG .INFO and other top level domains allow you to use something called “Domain Privacy” or “Who Is Privacy Protection”.
“What is that?” I hear you ask. Well first, let me explain “WhoIs”.
For every domain registered, you can do a “Who Is lookup” to see who owns that domain.
For example; JimsMowing.net we can do a WhoIs lookup here: https://who.is/whois/jimsmowing.net or here: www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/jimsmowing.net
and it gives us a result like this:
Domain Name: jimsmowing.net
Registry Domain ID: ROID
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.netregistry.com.au
Registrar URL: http://www.netregistry.com.au

As you can see, we have the Name, Address, Email Address and contact telephone number of the person who own’s that domain. Now imagine this scenario: What if you were a doctor (GP) who ran a medical practice and had your medical practice website but didn’t want patients knowing your home address and arriving at your house in the middle of the night looking for help? How could we prevent this? Simple – we could put “Domain Privacy” on our domain. That way, no one would find our personal details. Instead, they’d see generic info relating to the Domain Privacy protection company.
Some Domain Registrars charge an annual fee for Domain Privacy, but there are some places you can go to get it for free!

For .AU Domains
You cannot register a .AU Domain name unless you have an ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number).
Because the domain name is linked to your ABN, people can search for your ABN on the ASIC website and find your details there. Unfortunately that means Domain Privacy is a moot point for the Sole Trader who has registered their business name with ASIC, as they have usually used their home address to register their business. The only way to avoid this is to set up using an office address as your place of business. A PO Box is not going to work. If you still decide you want a .AU domain name,
